Coastal Groove Mordialloc

Fireplace: 50SS Ethanol Fireplace

Set in the beachside suburb of Mordialloc, this full renovation project puts the ethanol fireplace exactly where it belongs- the first thing you see when you walk through the door.

The Vision

The brief was simple: make the fireplace the feature. The client wanted the first thing you see when you walk through the door to stop you in your tracks.

With no structural constraints and a builder already on site for a full renovation, the conditions were ideal to get it exactly right.

Design Features

The 50SS is clad in white painted VJ panelling — a classic joinery detail that brings texture and a quiet coastal character to the feature wall.

The vertical grooves draw the eye upward, framing the flame and giving the wall a presence that suits the room without competing with it.

The panelling ties everything together — the fireplace doesn't read as a separate element dropped into the renovation. It belongs to it.

Technical Excellence

The 50SS burns clean bioethanol with no flue, no chimney, no smoke, and no ash — and the flueless installation genuinely surprised the client.

"Looks great — a real fire without a flue. Modern. Makes the room."

Warming up to 60m² the beautiful orange dancing flames will burn up to 13 hours.

The build uses a combination of materials chosen for both finish and compliance:

  • Hardie™ Groove Lining vertical joint (VJ) sheet panels.
  • White aluminium angle trim finish.
  • Black porcelain enamel-coated 304-grade stainless steel burner for durability and longevity.

From the first flame to every evening after, this is what a renovation looks like when everything comes together.
